A special prosecutor charges Cuyahoga County, Ohio election workers with secretly skirting rules designed to make sure all votes were counted correctly. There is no evidence of vote fraud but the prosecutor said their efforts are aimed at avoiding an expensive, public hand recount of all votes cast.

Three top county election officials have been indicted and Erie County Prosecutor Kevin Baxter said more are possible, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Baxter charges Cuyahoga election workers not only ignored the safeguards but also worked to defeat them during Ohio’s 2004 recount.
